Wie wähle ich die richtigen Tennisschuhe für Kinder?

How do I choose the right tennis shoes for children?

Last modified on17 June 2025

Tennis shoes for children do not differ fundamentally in their characteristics from the models for adults. Here too, cushioning, stability, weight, size and the surface on which they are played are of decisive importance. And, of course, comfort should not be ignored!

Size

In order to have as much freedom of movement as possible when sprinting and jumping during tennis , the toes should have about one centimeter of space in the shoe. It is therefore advisable to buy tennis shoes one size larger, especially for children's shoes. We therefore recommend trying on new tennis shoes with thick tennis socks.

As children's feet are constantly growing, they can quickly outgrow their tennis shoes. Therefore, check regularly whether the shoes still fit and still offer enough space for your children's feet. This ensures a high level of comfort and avoids potential poor posture caused by shoes that are too small.

Attenuation

Cushioning is an important factor in tennis shoes. In tennis, children are constantly moving in different directions, stopping abruptly and making explosive sprints. A well-cushioned tennis shoe absorbs the resulting stresses well and thus protects the growing musculoskeletal system.

Good cushioning is particularly advantageous in the heel area, as it protects the joints. Ideally, the material converts the impact energy into powerful push-off energy and thus supports dynamic footwork.

Stability

In tennis, there is a particular risk of injury around the heel and ankle. This is why tennis shoes use reinforced materials in these areas to stabilize the foot and prevent twisting. Stabilizing elements in the midfoot area prevent ankle injuries. They also contribute to torsional rigidity and ensure that the foot can only twist slightly.

Weight

It is not possible to say in general terms how much tennis shoes should weigh as a minimum or maximum. Nevertheless, the weight of the tennis shoes should be taken into account when making a purchase decision. The tennis shoe should feel light on the foot, but still offer sufficient cushioning and stability.

Breathability

The shoe climate also plays an important role in tennis shoes. Because even on hot days and during intense matches, your feet shouldn't get too hot. Breathable materials in the upper and inner material not only ensure good ventilation, they are also particularly light and still provide the necessary support.

Wearing comfort

With all the important and helpful functional aspects that tennis shoes for children have to fulfill, there is of course one thing we must not forget: Children should feel comfortable in their tennis shoes and enjoy wearing them. Otherwise the fun of tennis will soon be over!
