Want to get started in tennis quickly? We give you 5 brilliant tips for the perfect start!
Have you caught fire for the sport of tennis and want to swing a racket yourself as quickly as possible? Good idea, because tennis is a great sport that you can learn and enjoy at practically any age. We've put together 5 brilliant tips to make it easier for you to get into tennis and get started as quickly as possible.

The TeNNIStrainer shows you how to go about it

To prevent your tennis game from becoming a source of frustration right from the start because the balls too often don't land where you want them to, you should definitely take coaching lessons. Whether alone or in a group, a tennis coach will show you how to hit the tennis ball correctly and swing the tennis racket properly right from the start. But also how to grip the tennis racket correctly. There are different grip positions for the different tennis strokes, such as forehand and backhand, which make it easier for you to hit the ball.

Speaking of tennis rackets: At the beginning, they should encourage you rather than challenge you, i.e. support you as much as possible in your learning process. You can do this better with a slightly lighter and more forgiving model. This means you use less energy and can concentrate better on the things that are important: Hitting the tennis ball at the right impact point with a clean technique.

Warming up is mandatory

You should start each of your training sessions, whether with a tennis coach or not, with an extensive warm-up phase before you get going at full speed.
A little running and a few loosening exercises will prevent the risk of injury. A subsequent slow impact in the half court prepares your muscles for the tennis-specific load and you get the rhythm and feel for the ball that you will need for the actual training exercises.

The body weight must be moved forward

As a beginner, your first goal will be to get the basic strokes - i.e. forehand and backhand - right. You will soon realize this: To hit effectively from the baseline, you need to shift your body weight in the direction of the shot towards the net. Your coach can support this movement during training by placing markers or setting up cones that you have to run around. This automatically causes you to move forward in the direction of your shot. You move towards the ball and your groundstrokes become more stable.

Eyes on the tennis ball

In general, the tennis ball should always be the focus of your attention. Once it is in play, it is more important than the player or the tennis coach on the other side of the net. In order to hit the tennis ball cleanly again and again during your rally, you must always have it in view, consciously perceive how it leaves the opponent's tennis racket, how it bounces in your half and how it reaches the position in which you want to hit it. If you have the opportunity, watch slow-motion footage of professional players on the internet. You will see that their eyes are constantly focused on the ball.

Play, play, play - but with understanding

In tennis, even more than in other sports, practice makes perfect. Especially at the beginning, you cannot repeat what you have learned often enough to consolidate the technique of your basic strokes. That's why: Don't limit yourself to just one coaching session per week. Also arrange to play freely with various other players.
You will soon notice that different opponents often hit the tennis ball over the net in very different ways: the height of the shot, the speed of the shot and the spin vary. If you want to be successful against more than just one type of player later on, you need to be able to adapt to this. When you are playing for points, especially as a beginner, always keep in mind that the main thing is to practise your basic strokes and execute them correctly. If a few balls go out of bounds, this will get you further in the long run than “somehow” choking the ball into the court with the wrong technique in order to win the rally.
