A quick sense of achievement is very important, especially for children. For this reason, the German Tennis Federation (DTB), its regional associations and Tennis-Point support the ITF initiative PLAY + STAY, which was launched in 2007. The aim of this initiative is to teach children and adult beginners how to play tennis in an easy, healthy and exciting way, for example with the right teaching method, the ideal equipment, fitness-oriented training programs and attractive forms of play and competition.
PLAY + STAY takes care of all beginners with the appropriate methodical concept - learning by playing.
WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT PLAY + STAY BALLS?
The tennis balls are pressure-reduced, which means they bounce less high and fly less far. The pressure reduction is adapted to the different ability levels of children. This makes playing tennis more fun and makes it much easier for children to learn how to play tennis. It quickly becomes possible to play longer rallies and promotes stroke technique through the right point of impact.
For children aged three and over, there are so-called soft balls, which are made of foam and have slow bounce and flight characteristics. The tennis balls are slightly larger than normal tennis balls and are designed to get little ones used to playing with a racket and ball.
PERFORMANCE LEVEL LEVEL 3
The youngest players start on the smallest court (small court) with Stage 3 tennis balls (red), which are 75% pressure-reduced and slightly larger than normal tennis balls.
PERFORMANCE LEVEL LEVEL 2
Advanced and older children play on the midcourt with Stage 2 tennis balls (orange), which are 50% pressure-reduced and have the size of normal tennis balls.
PERFORMANCE LEVEL LEVEL 1
This is the first time that the full length of the court has been used. The balls are 25% pressure-reduced. These normal-sized tennis balls are also very suitable for training with adult beginners.
